MACON, Georgia (WMGT/41NBC) – A portion of Interstate 475 is shut down due to a deadly crash involving two tractor trailers and two vehicles.
The crash is on Interstate 475 northbound between Thomaston Road and Zebulon Road.
According to Bibb County deputies a tractor trailer was disabled and stopped in the middle lane of the Interstate 475. The driver of the tractor trailer got out and began work on the tractor trailer. That’s when the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado pulled in front of the tractor trailer and parked to help the driver of the disabled tractor trailer.
Deputies say a second tractor trailer traveling in middle lane then collided with the disabled tractor. His vehicle continued to move in a northern direction, hitting the parked Chevrolet Silverado and a Honda Accord.
The driver of the disabled tractor trailer, 61-year-old George E. James from Effingham, South Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Leon Jones.
Two others were transported to the Navicent and are both listed to be in stable condition.
All lanes were reopened at around 4:30p.m
