Video shows moments leading to woman being shot and killed, Macon’s 40th homicide

According to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones, there's been a homicide every month this year.

WARNING: The video is graphic. Hammonds is the woman in the orange hoodie.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)  – Bibb investigators are working this year’s 40th homicide. Coroner Leon Jones is worrying that number will grow before the year is over.

“40 homicides in Macon. This is not Atlanta, DeKalb County, this is Macon, Georgia,” Jones said.

Instead of celebrating the holidays, a Macon family is mourning the loss of 20-year-old Tynesha Hammonds.

“I can give all the PSA’s and people can do all the marching and everything they want to, but it’s not going to stop until the people doing it want it to stop,” he said.

Sunday night, Hammonds went Facebook live. The video has since been taken down. It shows the moments leading up to the shooting. 41NBC obtained the video before Facebook removed it. In the video, you can hear the gunshots and someone saying “they shot my cousin in the head.”

In a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, it says she was driving near Bloomfield Way at Bloomfield Road around 8 p.m when someone fired shots into the vehicle.  Deputies found Hammonds lying next to a blue Nissan Altima.

Jones pronounced her dead at the scene at 8:45. No one else was injured.

“I’m going to pray for that family and the one that did the shooting, pray for his family because they are going to catch him. They always do,” Jones said.

In a statement from the Sheriff’s Office when asked if the video is helping with the investigation it says quote:

“Given the situation it is very sad how people share tragic incidents like this over social media outlets.”

According to Jones, there’s been a homicide every month this year.
