MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A local retired firefighter wins Fire Inspector of the Year for the state of Georgia.
Retired Fire Prevention Director Larry Smallwood, received the honor at the 47th Annual Firefighters Recognition Day at the state capitol.
Macon-Bibb County Fire Chief Marvin Riggins and 18 other firefighters helped recognize Smallwood during the ceremony.
“The way it goes is, I’ll still do it. I don’t see any stopping because I love it and it’s part of my life and my family’s life,” Smallwood said.
Smallwood retired from the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department in 2015, after 40 years as an inspector at a local and state level. After retiring, he continues to work with local venues and teach the principles of fire inspection.
