MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County teachers will receive the gift of having all of their projects supplies paid for. It’s all thanks to the Peyton Anderson Foundation and an anonymous donor.
“Every day your email was going off,” 3rd-grade teacher Kristie Garnett said. “Someone else got funded, and the Amazon boxes just came rolling in.”
Garnett was anticipating paying for new math games and science project supplies. However, now she doesn’t need to stress about financing them.
Karen Lambert, the president of Peyton Anderson Foundation, says teachers often go unappreciated. She felt the need to help Bibb County teachers this holiday season.
Lambert says she came across the website DonorsChoose.org. It’s a site that allows teachers to submit funding needed for projects, trips, and supplies — then donors can pay them off.
“I looked at and totaled the amount they needed,” Lambert said. “It was really an affordable amount for the foundation. I thought we could fund all of those requests.”
Peyton Anderson funded $18,000, and a secret donor matched that amount. This is not only a gift for teachers but a unique path for students to succeed.
“We’re no longer in the worksheet level of learning like we did when we were kids,” Garnett said. “They do online learning for math games. They learn so much better and retain it so much better when they’re hands-on,”
Peyton Anderson paid off teachers’ wish lists on Giving Tuesday.
Lambert says she hopes to make this a tradition.
