.WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A changing of the guard took place at Robins Air Force Base Tuesday.
Brigadier General Jennifer Hammerstedt stepped into her new role as Robins Air Force Base Complex Commander.
The base held the ceremony at the Museum of Aviation. Socially distant airmen, family, and the mayors of Warner Robins and Perry attended the function.
Former commander, Brigadier General John Kubinec, retires at the end of this month and will hand over command. At the ceremony, Hammerstedt also spoke about her plans in the upcoming days.
“We’ve brought on several new missions here,” Hammerstedt said. “So quite frankly I’m kind of interested in learning about how those have laid down here at Robins. I am familiar with the footprint here, so I’m anxious to see where all the stuff is going. How have we laid it down here.”
Hammerstedt previously worked in Washington D.C. at the Pentagon. She served as the Principal Military Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Defense.
