MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Medical Examiner’s Office in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Macon Crime Lab will be suspending operations soon.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Public Affairs Director, Nelly Miles, the Medical Examiner’s Office will end its operations on Thursday, October 1st.
According to bulletin sent by Miles, the Examiner’s Office is closing because the medical examiner is retiring. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Macon Crime Lab has been trying to find a pathologist to work in the Macon office since December, but hasn’t found any qualified applicants.
The last day autopsies will be performed is Friday, September 25th. The rest of the crime lab’s operations will continue.
